The engineering behind the Gon.

Confined space ventilation

Built out of need, not want.

Control Point Group has cleaned over 1,200 tanks across marine, defence and industrial maintenance projects. Every one of those jobs ran into the same problem: the tank atmosphere.

When a vessel comes in for maintenance, the first job is always the same: clean the tanks so an inspection can begin. A typical maintenance period means 10 to 16 tanks need opening at once, so the team knows quickly whether remedial work is required before the vessel goes back in the water.

Ventilating that many tanks the old way meant two barrel fans per tank, one blowing in and one drafting out, each with its own run of plastic ducting weaving through the vessel. Open two tanks, and you had four runs of ducting blocking passageways, stairwells, watertight doors and every entry point on board. Other trades would cut into that ducting to grab airflow where they needed it, releasing contaminated tank atmosphere into working areas and setting off vessel alarms. Full site evacuations, every time. Hours of productive time lost.

The idea for Sukkagon came out of a conversation at the 2024 ACMG conference in Sydney, where Control Point Group met Marine Air Flow Systems. CPG had already been running an ad hoc version of the idea, a fan and manifold rig used across more than 400 tanks. MAFI's engineering turned that idea into a purpose-built unit.

Sukkagon is designed and manufactured in Australia, with aluminium components built by Marine Air Flow Systems on the Gold Coast and final assembly in Queensland. It now opens and ventilates up to five tanks at once, with no ducting run through the vessel at all.

As Clayton "Ditch" Vladich, Managing Director of Control Point Group, puts it: by controlling the atmosphere, you're not simply moving air, you're creating the conditions that allow people to work safely, efficiently and confidently.

The people behind Sukkagon

Control Point Group built Sukkagon, a Far North Queensland business founded in 2018 by Clayton "Ditch" Vladich and Adam Spinelli. Through Control Point Rescue, the team spent years in confined spaces on marine, defence, and industrial sites, running emergency response and high-risk entry work before Sukkagon was ever an idea.

That hands-on experience is where the product came from. Ditch and the CPG team had cleaned over 1,200 tanks and run into the same ventilation problem on every job. They knew exactly what needed fixing because they were the ones dealing with it.

The engineering behind Sukkagon comes from Marine Air Flow Systems, based on the Gold Coast and led by Director Brad Marsden. CPG and MAFI met at the 2024 ACMG conference in Sydney, and what started as a conversation about a rough fan-and-manifold rig CPG had already been using in the field became a purpose-built partnership. MAFI's engineering turned a working idea into a manufactured product, built and assembled in Queensland.

Clayton "Ditch" Vladich leads the project as Managing Director of Control Point Group, working alongside Johnny Fisher on the Sukkagon side of the business.

Built in Australia.

Engineered on the Gold Coast

Every Sukkagon starts with Marine Air Flow Systems, based on the Gold Coast and led by Director Brad Marsden. MAFI manufactures the aluminium components that make up the unit, built to the same standard the marine and defence sectors expect from the vessels Sukkagon works on.

From there, the team assembles each unit in Queensland before it goes to work. It's designed and built to ISO 9001, with a variable-speed motor rated IECEx flameproof and dust-proof for hazardous environments, and an onboard circuit breaker to protect the asset against power spikes or loss.

Sukkagon isn't an off-the-shelf import adapted for the job. It was engineered specifically for marine, defence, and industrial confined-space ventilation, built around the real conditions of shipyards and vessels at sea rather than a general-purpose design pressed into service. The partnership between Control Point Group and MAFI began with a problem CPG had already faced in the field, and MAFI's engineering turned it into a manufactured product rather than a workaround.

Every component, from the hose couplings to the lockable wheels and rated lift points, is built to withstand the environments it works in: shipyards, open decks and wharves, in all conditions, across marine, defence and industrial sites.

Set it, walk away.
Once it's connected and balanced, no adjustments are needed until the job's done. No one has to reposition fans or babysit airflow mid-shift.

Moves the productivity number, not just the safety checkbox.
Faster work commencement, more productive hours, fewer atmospheric emergencies. For a shipyard operator, that's the line that changes a budget conversation, not just a compliance tick.

Proven on 1,200+ tanks before it was ever a product.
CPG ran an ad-hoc version of this across 400+ tanks before MAFI engineered the purpose-built unit. It wasn't designed in a lab, it was built from the job site up.

Already validated at the top of the industry.
Two award finalist results judged by DSTG, DMTC, CSIRO and Navantia-level panels, plus live runtime on HMS Spey, HMS Tamar, USS Jackson, ABF Cape Class and Navy hydrographic vessels. That credibility is hard for a new competitor to match.

“By controlling the atmosphere, you’re not simply moving air. You’re creating the conditions that allow people to work safely, efficiently and confidently.”
— Clayton "Ditch" Vladich, Managing Director, Control Point Group
